Wayzata does winter as lake theater. Once Lake Minnetonka freezes, Wayzata Bay becomes public space — skaters, fat-bikes, ice anglers — and the town effectively gains a second street grid on the ice, which is why shoreline homes here light their lake-facing elevations as seriously as their entries: all winter, an audience is out there looking back. Lake Street's shops and the historic Wayzata Depot, the town's lakefront landmark, dress the downtown for the season, and the effect from the bay — lit village above, lit shoreline around — is one of the metro's best winter views. The calendar is the state's most compressed: hard freezes land mid-to-late October, so estate-scale installs start in late September, and the small pool of crews equipped for lakefront work books out first; September commitments are normal here. Craft notes: lakeside elevations take the full force of wind off the ice, so every strand is clipped and every connection sealed; boathouse and terrace scopes are quoted alongside the house; and January takedowns flex with the thaw — on big shoreline properties, spring takedown windows are common and worth agreeing to in advance.

Wayzata packs the west metro's most expensive real estate into a small lakeside town: Lake Street's walkable downtown faces Wayzata Bay, the shoreline east and west of it carries estates that have anchored Minneapolis wealth since the railroad era — Ferndale's gated drives among them — and the blocks uphill hold a mix of older cottages, refined rebuilds, and substantial newer customs in sections like Holdridge. The work splits by geography. Downtown-adjacent streets are compact, detailed installs. The shoreline is estate craft: long broken rooflines, boathouses and lakeside terraces in the design, mature specimen trees, and the particular Wayzata request — lighting the lake-facing elevation, because on a frozen Lake Minnetonka the back of the house is the most public face it has.
